A Short Guide to The Specifications of Machine Woven Rugs

Each machine woven rug has a technical identity card that gives the specifications of the product. In this article, we will explain the manufacture details of the machine woven carpets and their technical specifications.

The main characteristics of machine-woven rugs are:

Reeds, Density, Size, Number of colours, Material, Pile height.

-Reeds: The number of knots in 1 meter of the rug's width. The common reeds count are: 350, 500, 700, 1000,1200 and 1500 knots.
The higher reeds, higher quality and resolution.

-Density: The number of knots per 1 meter of the rug's length. The common densities are: 1000, 1500, 2550, 3000, 3600 and 4500 knots.

The higher density, higher quality, resolution and durability.

Size: The rugs normally come in standard dimensions such as

4sqm (1.5x2.5m)

6sqm (2x3m)

9sqm (2.5x3.5m)

12sqm (3x4m)

for area rugs and living rooms.

The sizes for doormats are normally:

40x60cm

50x80cm

60x100cm

And the round rugs diameters are:

1.0m

1.5m

2.0m

2.5m

3.0m

Different sizes could be produced by order.

-Number of colours: It is clear from the name that it represents the number of colours used in the rug. More colours give more detailed designs.

-Material: Unlike the handmade rugs, the machine woven rugs are normally made of synthetic fabrics such as acrylic, polyester, polypropylene and viscose ect... The 'heat-set acrylic' is the best yarn in machine woven rugs and has very high durability and strength.

-Pile height is the height of the yarn. The high length of the pile gives a softer surface when we walk on the rug and it is normally used in lower density rugs. The high density rugs have normally shorter pile yarn as this gives high resolution designs. The standard pile length for 700 reeds rug is about 10mm while the 1200 reeds rug is around 7mm.
